My Ballet Story
Dropping out of ballet young and restarting it in my mid-twenties, I know first hand about starting your ballet as an adult!
I have always loved dance but ballet is my first love and will always have my heart. Starting when I was 4 and moving up the RAD grades I was sure this was something I would never leave behind. Fast forward a few years, my passion remained, but due to my own personal reasons, I decided to quit.
I spent years trying to fill the hole that ballet left behind and explored all kinds of different dance styles, however nothing quite came close to the joy I felt when I was dancing ballet.
I had toyed with the idea of restarting again but was swamped with thoughts of self doubt;
"What if I'm not good enough and embarrass myself"
"I don't have a ballet body"
"I'm not as fit as I used to be"
However, after the crazy time that was COVID, I had had enough of this mindset. If the pandemic had taught me anything, it was that you should do what makes you happy, because who knows what's just around the corner!
Unfortunately, looking for classes to join proved difficult. Most places only offered classes for children or advanced students who were already integrated with in the dance school. Most adult ballet classes I did find didn't seem to challenge adult students, giving little to no corrections and providing minimal information regarding proper technique - it almost felt impossible to find classes that focused on the joy of ballet but which also took adult dancers seriously.
